Safe ‘n Sound (or not!)

The title of this book Safe ‘n Sound (or not!) and the poems therein were inspired by the real-life, unprecedented relationship between a Red fox and German Shepherd. Two best buddies: the dog, Tinni and the fox, Sniffer’s unlikely friendship began when photographer Torgeir Berge and Tinni came upon a fox while on one of their walks in the woods of Norway, somewhere in the vicinity of their home.

The poems in Safe ‘n Sound (or not!) relate to the state of being that all living creatures find themselves in, at one time or another during their lifespan: Either “safe” (which implies “sound” too — sound of mind, body and spirit), or not safe (implying not “sound”— physically, spiritually, or mentally). An over-simplification perhaps, but nonetheless pretty much true to form. And since poetry represents the written word in a form unlike that of the common paragraph, I believe that poetry can speak to one’s state of being concisely, directly to the heart of the matter.
